Basketball in Kenya is more than just players in any gymnasium or court, at any league game or tournament. It’s the friends at your wedding reception, and at the baby shower and thereafter the baby’s christening. It is in the ones that hold your hand when you’re in dire need of medical attention and make sure all bills are covered. It turns the box outs and screens into warm hugs in times of loss. In new business ventures, it turns teammates into your first customers. It is in the many work opportunities posted in basketball groups so people can advance in their careers. Kenyan basketball takes up the holistic approach. Guardians should be the first to motivate their children to take up sports. It is vital in helping children integrate into the society. The next time you see that big, distinctive, orange basketball, think of it as the circle of life.
