Experienced duo Maxine Wahome and Safina Khan put up a time of 17:16.1 to emerge victorious at the Lioness Rally, which took place at the Kasarani Super Spectator Stage. 

Coming in at second and third place were Natasha Tundo, navigated by Chantal Young, and the mother-daughter duo of Caroline Gatimu and Tinashe Gatimu. Their times were 17:19 and 18:44.5 respectively. First-time drivers Lisa Christoffersenand Lillian Onduko clinched the fourth spot with a time of 19:35.1. This was a minute and 10 seconds faster than the fifth-placed former news anchor Pauline Sheghu, who did 20:45, with Mitchelle Chao navigating.

The White Cap Lager Marketing Manager Catherine Ndung’uexpressed her optimism about the potential of the Rally to involve more women in the sport. 

“The Lioness Rally is a great initiative in motorsport and anyone that has been involved has seen the potential it has. Well done to everyone that took part, and we look forward to partnering with the event in the future to push the message of responsible drinking once more.”

Speaking on the sponsorship and the upcoming event this weekend, The Lioness Rally Founder, Lisa Kristofferson urged more ladies to be involved in the sport more not only as spectators but also offer themselves as marshals, mechanics, drivers, and navigators for the rally club.

“I am proud to see an event that we conceptualized less than a year ago come to life the way it has today. We are extremely grateful to our partners including KBL and the brand White Cap brand for joining us to make history with the first all-female rally in Kenya. “

Former Media Personality Pauline Sheghu, who together with Mitchelle Chao placed 5th on the day expressed her excitement at seeing more ladies getting involved in the sport.

“The ladies have come out and have done themselves proud, not only on the track, but also in making the event as a whole a successful one. I still appeal to the ladies out there. There is so much more we can achieve together, so join, and together we will make all these things happen.” 

The motorsport action continues this weekend at the Equator Rally slated to take place on 3rd April 2022 under the Africa Rally Championship banner.

The event, which is the first of its kind, was sponsored by the Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL) beer brand White Cap Lager, which was the event’s official Responsible Drinking partner.
